OVERALL OBJECTIVE
The Inter-American Dialogue is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial, and results-oriented professional to join its senior leadership team as the organization’s top finance professional. The primary role of the Director of Finance is to lead and manage all financial functions including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and human resources.

This professional will ensure the organization’s resources are used in such a way to assure maximum benefits to the clients and the community. They will enhance the performance and integrity of the Dialogue’s finances and be an active and contributing thought partner to the President & CEO and senior leadership team. The Dialogue is looking for a proactive, forward- thinking and hands-on professional who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and working collaboratively in a team-based organization.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the President & CEO, the Director of Finance serves as a member of the senior leadership team as well as a resource for the Board of Directors regarding all financial matters. The Director of Finance will work closely with all departments within the Dialogue to align finances with programmatic needs. Initially the Director Finance will initially manage part-time professionals; however, as the organizational revenue grows, additional professionals can be added to the finance and administrative function.
The Director of Finance is responsible for ensuring appropriate stewardship of the Dialogue’s finances for both the short and long term.

KEY ROLES AND FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Finance and Accounting
• Oversees payroll, cash management and treasury functions; prepares monthly financial statements for the organization’s leadership and Board of Directors; annual audit and proper filing of tax reports and materials; benefits administration; etc.
• Develops and implements financial plans for short- and long-term investments, forecasting and budgeting.
• Prepares the annual budget and ensures that budgeting supports the organization’s mission and strategic plans; facilitates efficient and effective use of resources. Prepares the Board of Director’s reports.
• Oversees financial reporting including cost center reports and grant compliance reports.
• Manages organizational investments and review of investment policy.
• Assesses the organization’s financial performance against the annual budget and multi- year forecast and the organization’s long-term strategy.
• Develops tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the President & CEO, senior leadership team, and the Board and makes actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations.
• Serves as an ex-officio member of and staff liaison to the Board Finance Committee.
• Partners with the leadership team to lead the annual planning process, establishes organizational objectives and supporting the budget, and monitors overall organizational performance.
• Partners with senior leadership team colleagues in developing proposals and business plans that support strategic priorities.
• Selects and engages outside consultants where appropriate (auditors, investment advisors, insurance brokers, service providers, etc.).
• Ensures adequate internal controls and financial procedures for risk prevention for the organization and to safeguard its financial assets; ensures compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements; maintains appropriate insurance coverage.
• Coordinates the annual audit.
• Assists in preparing grant applications and reviews all budgets.
• Manage building and facility issues including lease renegotiation.

Human Resources
• Oversees all Human Resource functions for the organization, spanning talent acquisition; employee relations; compensation and benefits; and performance management.
• Assures employee records and an on-line employee recognition system are maintained.
• Ensures human resource policies and procedures comply with local and national regulations and maintains our employee handbook.
• Prepares and reviews operational and human resource policies and procedures and assesses the organization’s needs for operational functions currently and for the future

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• An entrepreneurial, self-starter and forward-thinking leader, this finance executive should be a proven manager with the ability to motivate, inspire and instill confidence in others.
• Possess good judgment, maturity, evidence of executive demeanor and diplomacy, and the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
• Proven ability to have a good relationship with all types of personalities and leadership styles; possesses a service orientation combined with a business acumen.
• An individual of high ethical standards; the selected candidate is a strategic thinker, nimble, pragmatic, and flexible with the highest level of integrity.
• A thought leader with a track record of integrating cutting edge programs and ideas. Someone who demonstrates initiative while remaining flexible, collaborative, and open to the ideas of others.
• Presents themselves as an articulate and knowledgeable spokesperson for the organization before staff, board members, and constituencies.
• An individual who perpetually exudes and communicates a genuine caring and enthusiasm for the services the organization provides.
• Understands, and is committed to the mission, vision, and values of the Dialogue.
• Be creative, empathetic, organized and a strategic thinker with a positive attitude and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A results-oriented executive with good follow-through and proven experience in fully and accurately completing tasks as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Possess a minimum of five years’ experience in fiscal management at the senior level.
• Experience and knowledge with the human resource function.
• Experience with financial/business/pricing modeling, including development of dashboards and key performance metrics.
• Excellent organization, analytical and abstract reasoning skills.
• Strong people and executive management experience.
• Considerable experience in or knowledge of nonprofit finance, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, audit and compliance, and reporting.

EDUCATION
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business management, a CPA and/or MBA preferred.

WORK OFFICE EXPECTATIONS

In the office three days a week; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
