Introduction
Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) aims to support individuals that have
been displaced by the reduction in U.S. foreign assistance and the dramatic changes at USAID. To date,
USAID Stop Work estimates that 50,000 American foreign aid workers have lost their jobs and means of
income; moreover, 170,000+ jobs have been lost globally.
Our objective is to help affected people to find new employment, including shifts to new career paths,
ideally where they can use their skills in fulfilling and impactful positions to continue to serve marginalized
and underserved communities, both at home and around the world.
We are seeking a skilled digital content designer as a short term consultant to create, build and
initially manage the content for a new website. This website will serve as a comprehensive resource
for career transition, job search support, and professional development for former USAID employees and
international development professionals in the foreign aid sector who are navigating the job market during
this turbulent time.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with WordPress, a strong understanding of content best
practices and accessibility, and familiarity with building content using the WordPress block editor.
Experience with universities and nonprofit organizations is a plus, as is knowledge of the international
development / foreign aid sector and job market.

Key responsibilities
WordPress website management

  • ● Utilize the WordPress block editor to build and manage website pages and content that is
    consistent with a Georgetown University WordPress theme
    ● Create visually appealing and functional layouts for various sections, including the home page,
    events page, career counseling page, and resources page
    ● Ensure the website is fully accessible and meets best practices for web accessibility standards,
    including WCAG compliance
    ● Regularly update website content, ensuring all information is accurate, relevant and current
    Content development
    ● Write clear, engaging and empathetic content for the website, ensuring it meets the target
    audience’s needs
    ● Create content that is structured for easy navigation, aligned with the site’s goals, and optimized
    for accessibility
    ● Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure content reflects the initiative’s mission and aligns with
    stakeholders and the users’ needs

Content strategy execution

  • ● Implement and develop the website’s content strategy based on the website project outline
    ● Organize and structure content for easy access to resources such as job listings, career
    counseling, professional development events and community-building tools
    ● Highlight key partnerships and external resources, ensuring these are communicated and easy
    for users to access

Collaboration and communication

  • Work closely with SFS stakeholders to ensure the website meets all strategic objectives
  • Participate in SFS team meetings and provide regular updates on content progress, challenges,
    and opportunities for improvement

Qualifications

  • ● Proficiency in WordPress, particularly the block editor, with proven ability to layout pages
    ● Basic graphic design skills or experience working with design teams to ensure visually appealing
    content
    ● Ability to structure content user-friendly, ensuring clear navigation and a seamless experience for
    website visitors
    ● Proven experience as a content writer, with a focus on creating content for WordPress websites
    and the ability to produce high-quality content in a variety of formats (articles, blog posts, guides,
    event listings, etc.)
    ● Strong knowledge of content best practices and web accessibility standards (WCAG)
    ● Familiarity with SEO best practices and keyword research for improving content visibility.
    ● Experience in content strategy or information architecture
    ● Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work within deadlines
    ● Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
    ● Experience working with universities, nonprofits, or similar organizations is preferred
    ● Knowledge of the international development / foreign aid sector and current state of the job
    market is highly desirable

Compensation
This is a short term consultancy (estimated 8-10 weeks) with flexible hours (estimated 15-20 hours per
