The National Asian American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association (NAAPIMHA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote and redefine the mental health and well-being of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander individuals and communities in the United States through training, programs, policy & advocacy, while centering lived experience. NAAPIMHA envisions mental wellness for all people–a world where mental health is destigmatized, and AANHPI communities can access the care and information they need to thrive.
NAAPIMHA is a small national nonprofit with a lean staff and a collaborative leadership model, working in partnership with community-based organizations, advocates, and public health leaders across the country.
ORGANIZATIONAL PRIORITIES
Our work focuses on community mental health and stigma reduction; culturally responsive mental health training; initiatives that support youth, families, and intergenerational healing; and national convenings and leadership development that strengthen community-based organizations and networks. We prioritize funding opportunities that support culturally grounded, community-led approaches and center lived experience across our programs, advocacy, and partnerships.
ROLE OVERVIEW
NAAPIMHA is seeking to contract with an experienced Grants Consultant to support our fundraising and development efforts. The consultant will work collaboratively with NAAPIMHA leadership and staff to gather program information, refine funding strategies, and develop competitive proposals.
We are looking for a consultant who:
Demonstrates a strong understanding of today’s nonprofit funding environment
Has a track record of success working with similar organizations or mission areas
Possesses excellent writing and storytelling skills and can develop compelling proposals for diverse public and private funders
Can research and cultivate funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities
Must be based in the United States and able to provide a valid federal Tax Identification Number (TIN) for contracting and payment purposes.
Success in this role will be evaluated based on the quality and timeliness of submissions, the number of funding opportunities and total grant dollars pursued, and effective portfolio management.
Anticipated goals may include a target range of applications and/or dollar amounts pursued per month or quarter, to be determined based on organizational capacity and funding cycles.
Note: This is a fully remote role.
SCOPE OF WORK
Key Responsibilities
Research and identify grant opportunities in alignment with NAAPIMHA’s priorities, including private foundations, corporate philanthropy, and other institutional funders, as well as relevant federal, state, and local government opportunities to support a diversified funding strategy.
Write, edit, and submit high-probability, high-quality grant proposals and letters of inquiry
Maintain a grants tracker and calendar to monitor deadlines, requirements, and submission portals.
Anticipated Deliverables
Monthly report of pursued funding opportunities
Completed grant proposals and letters of inquiry
A fundraising plan aligned with organizational priorities and needs
PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS
Interested consultants should submit:
A brief cover letter outlining interest, relevant experience, and approach to grant research and writing
Résumé or CV
One or two relevant writing samples (e.g., excerpts from grant proposals, concept notes, or similar materials; redacted samples are acceptable)
Professional references may be requested from finalists.
CONTRACT TERM, BUDGET, AND PAYMENT TERMS
The contract will begin as soon as a consultant is selected and will run through September 30, 2026, with the possibility of renewal.
The total contract budget is $10,000-$15,000, commensurate with experience and scope of services. Compensation is expected to be structured as a monthly retainer of approximately $2,000-3,000, tied to agreed-upon deliverables to support progress toward fundraising goals.
