Course Description

Learning a critical language like Spanish can help you advance in your career; add enjoyment to your travels to Spain and Latin America; and enable you to speak with Spanish-speaking friends, neighbors, and work colleagues here in the US.

Whether you’re looking to strengthen your Spanish after some time without having used it, gain a solid foundation, or work on specific thematic competencies, Emily will create a curriculum that is tailored to your language-learning goals!

Target Audience

Emily’s lessons are open to all!

  • Returned Volunteers who are looking to gain or strengthen the Spanish skills before they start a new position or in preparation for a deployment overseas;
  • Folks who will shortly leave on Peace Corps Response assignments and need to tune-up their Spanish in a given technical area;
  • Those who have been accepted into 2-year Peace Corps assignments and want to gain greater comfort in Spanish prior to leaving the US;
  • Anyone who is thinking of traveling to a Spanish speaking country and/or wishes to speak with Spanish-speaking neighbors, friends, or colleagues.

Learning Objectives

Emily’s virtual tutoring sessions are dynamic, imaginative, and supportive, and fully tailored to each person’s language-learning goals and interests. Language-learning should be fun and she’d love to join you on your journey!

Curriculum Outline

Truly depends on what you are looking for! Can include portions of “general conversation” (meet-and-greet sort of chatting); speaking about a thematic area/interest requiring specific vocabulary; reading articles or books of interest aloud and learning to translate them; very short and entertaining writing exercises.

Bio – Emily (RPCV Honduras) takes her experience from providing 20 years of English<>Spanish translation services through human rights defense, environmental organizations, and community development in Latin America. Of late, she has offered Spanish-language tutoring to professionals and students who wish to strengthen their general conversational, writing, and reading skills, as well as gain a stronger grasp of a thematic area in the run-up/prep practicums or fieldwork in Latin America or Spain.
